We realize how important it is for our young children to continue their learning over the summer months. It is for this exact reason that we have made a huge commitment to provide our students with a variety of summer learning opportunities. Our intermediate students attended summer school in early June for two weeks in order to address any deficiencies that may have occurred in the areas of reading, math, science, or social studies. We have also been fortunate enough to receive a United Way grant for the fourth year in a row in order to offer our “Me and My School” program for our incoming kindergarten students. We are excited about our new preschool and speech summer offerings, too.
Our 21st Century Summer Program has offered a very active and intentional all day five-week experience to approximately 45 of our Lincoln students. Later this summer, we will also be offering a Primary Jumpstart Camp right before school starts where students will be working on academic and social skills needed for the upcoming school year. This Jumpstart Camp begins on July 24th and concludes on August 4th with each session being held from 9:00-noon on a daily basis. We are proud with the proactive approach that we are taking to address the summer learning gaps that occur with our students.
We would like to remind our students about their summer reading/learning projects, too. All of our kindergarten and first grade students received an activity calendar to work on over the summer, while our students in second through sixth grades each received a book. The expectation is that the students have their book read and AR test taken by the by the first day of school. Students completing this will receive a Kona Ice. We are also encouraging families to stop by our LES library any day this summer on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 until noon to check out books, take AR tests, read a good book in the cool, etc. Our LES Summer Reading Challenge encourages students to read, read, and read over these summer months. Students reaching their grade level AR goals will receive a special edition Summer AR t-shirt.
