We hope that everyone made special memories during the recent Thanksgiving holiday. With the guidance of the amazing LES teachers and staff, our students spent the month of November finding ways to show their GRATITUDE for their own family members and members of our school community. We were so inspired by the kids’ sincere desire to show their appreciation for those that care for them, and we also were impressed with their creative ways in which to do this – by making cards, posters, art projects, using kind words, etc.

As we move into this month of December, our focus is now on finding ways to GIVE. During the next few weeks, our students will be involved in a canned food drive for the St. Bernard Food Pantry.  The students will create a paper link chain as a visual representation of the number of cans collected. This will help our students to see the difference we can make when we work together for a common goal to help others. Our continued implementation of “Core Life”, our positive character trait program, helps to guide and teach each of our students in learning to live a life of great integrity and strength.  December’s Core Life lessons revolve around volunteering, empathy, and goal setting.

We are happy to announce that funds have been secured from various groups to enhance classroom libraries at Lincoln Elementary. Thanks to the LES PTC, Dayton Board of Education, readaloud.org, and the LES SBDM, each grade level will have $1,825 to purchase books for their students.  This will definitely enrich our continued efforts with literacy in our great school.  Our students continue to work very hard to meet their quarterly Accelerated Reader (AR) goals and these new and engaging books will help to continue to immerse our students in a variety of types of books that seek their varied interests.  We are grateful for the continued commitment from others who help to make literacy a major focus at LES.

We would like to invite our students’ families and our community to the annual LES Holiday Program.  This program has become a great tradition for our school over the last several years and has significantly grown in interest and attendance.  In order to comfortably accommodate all of our guests, we will be hosting this event at Dayton High School this year on Wednesday, December 21st at 9 a.m.  Our students will be using their talents to share the holiday spirit to others on this day.  Please consider joining in this memorable morning of fun.

We continue to extend the invitation to our community members to come to see the great things that are occurring at Lincoln Elementary School.  We would love to show off the hard work of our students, teachers and staff.  Contact us at 292-7492 if you’d like to come for a visit or if you’re interested in donating your time, talents or treasures to enhance the learning of our little devils. We look forward to hearing from you!
