As spring approaches and the days become longer, I hope to see our citizens spending more time outside enjoying some of our city’s great springtime traditions. I always look forward to St. Bernard’s Fish Fry during the Lenten Season, which is every Friday from 5 to 7 p.m.  The Dayton Civic Club is working hard on planning its annual Easter Egg Hunt to be held at Gil Lynn Park on Saturday, April 8. The event will begin at 1 p.m. and is always a fun time for the kids and their families.

I’m excited to announce that our city is applying for a Recreational Trail Program Grant to build a network of hiking and biking trails in Sargeant Park.  The plan for the trails will help us increase the usage of the park and provide residents with a way to get more active and enjoy the natural surroundings that the park offers.  There will be a public meeting on the grant application at the Main Street meeting on Tuesday, March 28 at 7 p.m. at the VFW Hall on the corner of Sixth and Main.  If you’re interested in hearing more about the trails, please join us at the meeting.

Our Main Street Program has many good works going on for our city.  We’ve received a $1,550 Urban Forestry Grant from the Campbell County Conservation District in support of the Main Street Program’s Tree Hab Project, so we will be planting trees throughout the city this fall.  Also, the Main Street Program has ordered eight bike racks that will be installed in the Main Street District to be used by residents and the many cyclists who ride bikes in and through Dayton.  Once the racks are installed, people will be able to stop, lock up their bikes and visit our shops and restaurants.

Until next month,
Mayor Boruske
