Dear Dayton High School Family,
We have just completed the first half of our school year – what a great half it has been. We are very much looking forward to continuing the many wonderful things happening in our school over the second half of the school year. We hope everyone was able to recharge and relax over the holidays for a much-deserved break. Please continue to emphasize to your student/s during these upcoming cold mornings to make sure they are in school every day, as great student attendance is critical in learning.
Many people make a New Year’s Resolution and they work hard to follow through, while some stray from that resolution quickly. Our New Year’s resolution at DHS is as clear as our mission statement: We want to continue to INSPIRE, ENGAGE, and GROW each of our students. We will work toward that resolution every day at DHS for the remainder of this year and beyond.
Dayton High School would like to congratulate our December Students of the Month. We also want to recognize our Artist/Athlete of the Month. Students were recognized at our Board of Education meeting on Wednesday, December 18th. Congratulations Greendevils!

The counseling office was busy during the month of December. Our counseling department attended trainings for Trauma Informed Care and Infinite Campus to better support our students. In addition, they were able to attend college seminars to learn more about opportunities for our students once they graduate. Our seniors have been receiving acceptance letters to various colleges and academies throughout the fall semester. So far, the total number of scholarships and awards to our seniors totals over $240,000!!! That's amazing, and we still have so many students waiting to hear back from colleges and universities.
We have a handful of students working with our local recruiters for various branches of the military and have one signed with a military branch already, great job all around! There are also 7 juniors that have met ACT benchmarks from the ACT exam in October. Those 7 juniors have also been accepted into the Gateway Dual Credit program for the Spring semester. We are GROWING! As always, if anyone needs anything, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or you can sign up for my Remind class. Text @gffak33 to the number 81010 to subscribe and text her directly.
December was a busy month at the Youth Services Center. A special thank you to Dayton Boosters and Tom and June Madison for providing Drug Free Club members treats. Also, a special thank you to the CARE Closet for having a pop-up event at Dayton High School. Numerous students and families were able to shop for clothes, sign up for assistance with diapers, and/or receive produce and soup compliments of Le Soupe. We hope to have a similar event in the spring.
Some excellent things happened when wrapping up the fall sports seasons:
Basketball is currently in full swing with 6th Grade, 7th Grade, 8th Grade, Freshman, JV and Varsity boys. The girls are competing at the 6th Grade, 7th Grade, Freshman and varsity levels with Johnessah Barbiea on the hunt for her 1000th point!
Varsity Cheerleaders are raring up for another competition while our Middle School cheerleaders are getting ready to cheer with the Ben-Gals. We hope to see you out supporting our winter athletes and teams!
It is great to be a Greendevil!
