Summer vacation is coming to an end this month and our children will be heading back to School on August 15th. We all need to be extra aware of children walking to and from school.
We have a couple of community events coming up this month. First, the Main Street Board is putting on a Dayton Kentucky Community Picnic on August 11th from 6 PM to 9 PM at the Town Center on the corner of Sixth Avenue and Berry Street. Music will be provided by Moonshine and Wine.
Dayton's River City Music Fest returns on Friday, August 31 and Saturday, September 1. The River City Music Fest is a two-day music festival. Cold beer, good food, and great music. Both days gates open from 5 PM until midnight. All proceeds benefit Light Up Dayton and will help pay for gifts for the children of Dayton.
Dayton author Robert Schrage will be having a book signing for his latest book Lost Northern Kentucky on Saturday, August 11th from 10 AM to Noon at the Dayton Heritage Museum 718 W Sixth Street.
I hope you like the new lamp posts, as we have installed six new decorative streetlights along Sixth Avenue at the corners of Walnut Street, Vine Street, and Ervin Terrace.
Lastly, Beyond the Curb will be coming in September. Beyond the Curb encourages urban living in Northern Kentucky’s river cities by showcasing the wide array of housing options and amenities. This year’s Beyond the Curb will be featuring properties in Dayton, Bellevue, Newport Covington and Ludlow. For more information, please visit www.beyondthecurb.org.
Until next month,
Mayor Ben Baker
Ben Baker is currently serving his first term as mayor after two consecutive terms on Dayton City Council. Mr. Baker lives on historic 6th Avenue and enjoys the walkable nature of Dayton as well as it’s many friendly streets.
