We realize how important it is for young children to continue their learning over the summer months. It is for this exact reason that we have made a commitment to provide our students with a variety of summer learning opportunities. Forty-eight of our incoming intermediate students attended a very engaging summer learning experience in early June for two weeks, which was included a fun-filled mystery unit, an outside speaker, and a field trip. We are fortunate to receive a United Way grant for another year in order to offer our “Me and My School” program for our incoming kindergarten students. This transition program helps to ensure our preschoolers make a successful transition to kindergarten. Our 21st Century Summer Program has offered a very active and intentional all day five-week experience to approximately 45 of our Lincoln students. This program includes structured and fun learning, and many additional away-from-school experiences, too. We will be offering a Chess Camp for our second graders this summer as well. We are proud of the proactive approach that we are taking to address the summer learning gaps that occur with students over the summer months.
We want to remind our students about their summer reading/learning projects, too. All of our kindergarten and first grade students received an activity calendar to work on over the summer while our students in second through sixth grades each received a book. The expectation is that the students have their book read and AR test taken by the by the first day of school. Students completing this will receive a Kona Ice. Our littlest devils who bring back their activity calendar marked with activities they completed will also get the delicious Kona Ice treat. Keep reading over the summer kids!!
