“We Didn’t Start the Fire”
Many of us are familiar with the song by Billy Joel, “We didn’t Start the Fire”. It was released in 1989, and is still heard and sung today. It is a song about historical events, good and bad, that would shape the world in which we live. The song begins in 1949, the year of Billy Joel’s birth. The fire that we didn’t start goes much deeper than Billy Joel’s song.
Each of us have a fire inside us that was started by Jesus the day we were born. Each fire is different. Some of us have a fire for business, for friendship, for hospitality, for teaching, for healing, or for one of a million different things. Our challenge is to fan the flame inside us and share our blessings with the world. Sometimes people try to dampen our flame, but the fire is stronger than these discouragers and cannot be put out by one person. This would be like a massive fire with one sprinkler. It simply cannot be done, don’t let them even try.
The Journey of Life is not always going to be easy, as we heard in the Joel song. There will be wars, deaths and violence, among many other things. And you will find, no one is perfect, as we will all have our bumps and bends in the road. In these times our flame may become dim, and barely sparking. Don’t ever give up! In times of trial, jump in, fan and fuel your flame, so that it grows and spreads for the entire world to see! Let others catch fire from us and continue to spread the love of God.
No matter what you are dealing with, do it in the eyes of God. You will not stand alone. The spirit will always stand with you and keep your fire burning.

Clothes from Jesus looking for donations of hygiene items
In January, First Baptist Dayton began a clothes closet for those in need. Our member Amanda Long saw the need and serves as its director. The ministry is called “Clothes from Jesus by First Baptist Dayton.” We have added hygiene items to the items accepted as donations to give to others, and are in special need of hygiene items right now – shampoo, soap, etc. Clothes from Jesus is open every Monday and Friday from 5-7 p.m. at the church, 501 Dayton Avenue, to accept donations and to provide clothing and hygiene items to help others. Enter the church from the Fifth Street side. Watch the Facebook page of Clothes from Jesus for details on how you can help or be helped: https://www.facebook.com/Clothes-From-Jesus-by-First-Baptist-Dayton-2025020654446171/.
