All of the hard work that Tim Hall and Crystal Johnson have put in over the past year in pursuit of their dream to open a family-friendly sports cafe has finally come to fruition, as the much anticipated Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Grand Opening of Hometown Heroes Sports Cafe, located at 517 Sixth Street, will take place at noon on Monday, April 3.
While the walls are filled with awesome Dayton sports photos and memorabilia, Hometown Heroes also honors Dayton heroes outside of the scope of athletics with their honor board. Each year, 10 heroes will be added, all nominated and voted upon by the citizens of Dayton. These are the types of people who have spent their lives doing as the front door says, "Be the person you needed when you were little". In other words, honoring people who made an impact in your life while growing up in Dayton. In my mind's eye, I'm seeing Ed Bosch and Tom Brewer, the two best baseball coaches on earth.
With a non-smoking indoor capacity of 30 patrons and an outside bar and courtyard that will easily accommodate 60, there will be plenty of room and TV's for family and friends to gather for a bite to eat after games and perhaps a beverage or three. Starting out, Hometown Heroes will be open Monday - Friday from 4 p.m until 11 p.m. and Saturday from noon until midnight.
Both food and drink prices are very reasonable and a Daily Special will be offered as well. For a longer view of the menu, just hit the "Pause" button in the above slideshow. Congratulations to Tim and Crystal on job very well done!
