As the clock winds down for these last 3 hours, 46 minutes and counting toward the New Year, let's count our blessings and think about all of the good things that are happening in the City of Dayton. Our Mayor and Council are working hard in executing the city's plan for growth and continued progress. Our police force is doing a great job of protecting us from crime. Our code inspector now has the tools to attack the blight that affects the value of our properties. Our public works crew is outstanding. Our Fire Department Bellevue-Dayton is second to none. And let's not forget about the "Distinguished" ranking that Dayton Independent Schools has recently received.
But the best thing that is happening has actually been happening for as long as I can remember. That is the community pride and spirit of the people of Dayton. If there is a cause, it will be supported. If someone is down, they are lifted up. Dayton musicians play at benefits for free and Dayton kids are treated like little princes and princesses.
While it is an honor being a lifetime citizen of Dayton, serving as the editor of our hometown paper is just icing on the cake. Thanks to the City of Dayton, Dayton Independent Schools and our loyal advertisers and contributors for helping us bring city news, school news, church news and good news to your door and computer every month.
So with a glass of sangria and a slice of sharp cheddar, I say......HAPPY NEW YEAR!
